What is low-E glass coating and how does it help?
Low-E is a microscopic layer of silver glass coating which is not visible. Low-E stands for “low emissivity”, which is the action of reflecting light that passes through the glass. By reflecting a portion of the light spectrum (the part that transmits heat), it helps reduce the window’s U-value and increase its R-value. Low-E is added to the glass to increase efficiency and comfort.
What is U-value and R-value of windows?
The measure of heat transferred through the glass of the window is called its U-value. A lower U-value indicates better insulation.
R-value refers to the measure of resistance to the heat flow from the windows. Windows having high
R-values provide greater resistance to heat.
